John Cox, currently serving as the President and Chairman of the Bettis Corporations and Manager for various Bettis limited liability entities and partnerships, began his journey in the oil and gas industry at Texas Tech University. He earned his bachelor's degree in business administration, specializing in Petroleum Land Management. His career trajectory took him from a company landman at Shell Oil Company to an independent landman, and later to Brigham Land Management, where he played a pivotal role in implementing large 3-D seismic projects across the Texas Panhandle, West Texas, and Western Oklahoma.

John set up his first office in the historic Graham Land Office Building, owned by Norman D. Stovall, Jr. and erected by E. S. Graham. This pivotal move led John to cross paths with the legendary oil man, Harry M. Bettis. Fondly referring to him as "Boss", John's collaboration with Mr. Bettis saw him planning and executing 3D seismic projects from seismic acquisition to the drilling of prospects.

In 2006, he became a full-time employee with the Bettis companies. His responsibilities and influence within the corporations grew, and by 2008, he was appointed Vice-President. In 2009, John was named President and Chairman of the Bettis Corporations, and also took on the role of Manager for the various Bettis limited liability entities and partnerships, positions he still holds today. Additionally, John serves as the Executive Vice-President of Bettis, Boyle & Stovall, Inc., and Vice-President of Sonic Oil & Gas, LP, Sonic Minerals, and Sonic Investments, LLC.
